Canberra tech company Seeing Machines is set to introduce hands-free cruise control for regular cars, after gaining global recognition for vastly improving operations for mining truck drivers.
Mining companies such as BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto began employing automated drills and driverless trucks to assist with production and preserve profit margins against a volatile market.
Rajant Corporation, the pioneer of Kinetic Mesh™ Networks and provider of pervasive, multi-frequency wireless solutions, joined forces with SatNetCom’s technology group SNCTechnologies, signing the cutting edge communication company as their Indonesian agent. Rajant is not your traditional mesh or Wi-Fi radio. The technology is unique in the market, enabling GSM providers, Mining, Oil, Gas and other enterprises to build reliable and high performing private wireless networks in the most difficult of locations and terrain.
GE and BHP Billiton have joined forces in a bid to improve efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the mining sector. As part of the partnership, the companies will also identify new solutions to address growing global demand for resources, including copper, iron ore and coal.
According to GE, new solutions would be developed under the partnership to reduce the emissions-intensity of mining operations, including transportation and power supply. GE and BHP Billiton plan to share these outcomes to improve sector-wide economic and environmental performance.
Assays are expected in two weeks from the diamond core recovered from Boadicea’s Red Cap prospect, 6km northeast of the Nova-Bollinger nickel copper deposit now owned by Independence.
The drilling targeted a conductor modelled about 475m below surface, and the disseminated and stringer sulphides seen in the core are at about that depth.
Boadicea has held the ground prior to Sirius Resources making the Nova discovery.
While assays aren’t expected for 2-3 weeks Peel is clearly confident they will be good given the company public statement that the 60m zone features “significant copper mineralisation”.
The true width of the mineralisation is being estimated at about 40m.
With lead and zinc mineralisation having been anticipated in this area before the drilling began, the copper hit has Peel managing director Rob Tyson wondering if the company is relying too much on downhole geophysics for its targeting, rather the “logic and geology”.
Mine production during the September quarter at Turquoise Hill Resources Oyu Tolgoi Copper-Gold Project in southern Mongolia was at record levels while concentrate produced and contained copper were on par with the previous quarter despite a shutdown of the concentrator in July.
Gold production decreased during the quarter as a result of lower grades but is expected to increase during the December quarter, according to the company’s CEO Jeff Tygesen.
G-Resources continued its strong performance at the Martabe Gold-Silver Project in North Sumatra, Indonesia, during the September quarter with a record 1.083 million tonnes of ore milled, including a monthly record of 394,000 tonnes in August.
The average gold head grade was 2.52 grams/tonne, yielding gold production of 70,302 ounces, slightly lower than the 72,096 ounces in the June quarter. The milling total was up from the 993,000 tonnes of the June quarter.
Working with three local internet providers, Google is trying to expand in Indonesia by installing helium-filled balloons in the stratosphere.
How do you connect a country made up of 17,000 islands to the internet? That’s the huge infrastructure challenge faced by Indonesia, and one that Google hopes to address using its high altitude ‘Project Loon’ balloons.
The Silicon Valley giant has partnered with three Indonesian internet service providers – Telkomsel, Axiata and Inmost – to deliver LTE connectivity to remote areas via clusters of giant helium balloons to places where fixed-line service aren’t available. It’s part of the company’s plan to help connect some of the billions of people around the world who remain offline.

The risks facing freight moving through supply chains at home and especially abroad are on the rise, with direct cargo thievery only one of many threats.
Once per week somewhere around the world, there is what’s considered to be a “terrorist attack” on the global supply chain – with cargo trucks and trains carrying Western-branded goods the main targets.
"Thousands of tonnes of fuel oil cargo stolen for the black market"
Security consultants Protection Group International Ltd. (PGI) have warned that oil theft will continue to fuel the trend of rising piracy in South East Asia.
“A high demand for illicit oil will continue to drive fuel theft and the targeting of small, low freeboard tankers in the region,” said PGI.
